Carbon Crows Nest

Brief

Southern Spars required a new design for a composite carbon crows nest to offer to their customers. The design would fit with Southern Spars standard manufacture practices. The design must also incorporate standard components and mechanisms. The final outcome was to produce realistic CAD renderings to present to the customer.

Outcome

Working with the engineering team at Southern Spars, Blender developed a carbon composite crows nest suited for large super yachts. The top teak rail uses a gentle arc to accent the curve found on the deck of a boat, while the teak flooring compliments similar details commonly found on board super yachts. The flooring and seat have built in draining features, this was incorporated by designing specific details into the composite mouldings. The openings around the sides have a soft visual impact and help reduce material costs while retaining structural integrity in the design.
